Welcome to carynmachado.com, the official website of Caryn Machado for Scotts Valley City Council 2008!
A BIG Thank
You
to all of my supporters and volunteers. I was honored by your faith and trust in me, and will always appreciate your generous  contributions of time and money to my campaign. While we did not win the Council race, we did win the White House, which is an extraordinary accomplishment and one we can be deeply proud of.

Thank you again for all of your efforts, and congratulations to Dene Bustichi, Randy Johnson and Donna Lind.

The Mission Statement of     Scotts Valley
"Our goal is to provide our residents with the environment of a tranquil, verdant forest, and the services of a modern, small city that reflects our history, culture and setting."

Vote Caryn to keep Scotts Valley Green
I value the preservation of our open spaces,
and will encourage sustainable and
green building practices.

Vote Caryn to keep Scotts Valley Safe
I am proud of the Scotts Valley Police Department and the Scotts Valley Fire District,
and the long hours they put in to ensure the safety of the citizens of our community.  I will make continued funding for our emergency services sector a top priority.

Vote Caryn to keep Scotts Valley Stable
I will help keep Scotts Valley in the black by
only spending within our means.

Vote Caryn to keep Scotts Valley Historic
I will work to help local historians and the Scotts Valley Historical Society preserve and protect our unique historic areas, buildings and artifacts. (Let's get our local museum created too!)

Vote Caryn to keep Scotts Valley's Water
Our Scotts Valley Water District works hard to keep our water safe and plentiful. I will help  promote water conservation programs and the continued expansion of the recycled water system in Scotts Valley to ensure water supply is adequate in the years to come.

As a 14 year resident, I value our top-notch schools, the well-being of our senior citizens and the close-knit community we know as Scotts Valley. I will help our town grow responsibly while keeping our Mission Statement and General Plan in mind.

Having lived in Scotts Valley for the last 14 years, I can truly say that I feel lucky to reside in such a safe, clean and beautiful town. However...something is out of balance.  The Town Center plans (although now moving along a bit) have been stalled for too long, and the proposed development at the edge of town currently divides us. Yes, I am concerned about the Target proposal. Go to my questionnaire & statement on the Issues page to read more.  In any case, as my teenage son would tell you, growing pains aren’t easy! I would, however, like to help alleviate them.

By correcting the balance of leadership on our city council, I believe we can steer Scotts Valley in the right direction.

My professional background is in the real estate/mortgage industry, and I have spent the last several years working for a local title company. While there I learned how to work for the benefit of everyone involved and to see things from all points of view. Many property issues come before the council. I believe my experience in that area will be invaluable to me as a Council Member. I am also very interested in helping people resolve difficult issues. Working at the polls at Branciforte Fire in February and as the Dual Precinct Captain at Oak Tree Villa in June of this year reinforced my desire to connect with our community and help address various challenges.

I am willing to step up to the plate and devote the time, energy and passion needed to help our community grow responsibly.

When elected, I intend to work hard to help our citizens and city leaders find middle ground on issues by finding commonalities in our differences, and by doing more listening and less talking.  We can find the answers, we just need to stop fighting and start working towards solutions.

Some people have asked me what I meant when I said "we need to stop fighting." Make no mistake, I meant it when I said that when elected I will uphold the mission statement of Scotts Valley when considering all future developments. I meant it when I said I will make the continued safety of the residents of Scotts Valley a priority. I am not and will not be afraid to take a stand to do what is right for our city and for our residents. I just don't think you have to threaten others or throw things to get your point across.
